Yes. Pilates is one of the best forms of low-impact exercise for beginners because it improves strength, posture, mobility and body awareness without excessive impact on the joints.

At Pilates Locale, our classes are designed to feel welcoming, supportive and adaptable for all experience levels. Whether you’re completely new to movement or returning after time away, our instructors provide layered options so you can move at your own pace.

No. You do not need to be fit or flexible before starting Pilates.

Pilates is designed to help you build strength, mobility, coordination and confidence over time. Many clients begin Pilates to improve fitness, recover from inactivity or reconnect with movement in a supportive environment.

Clinical Apparatus Pilates is a personalised, equipment‑based session using the full Pilates apparatus including Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, Barrels

It’s ideal for:
• Injury recovery
• Strengthening specific areas
• Improving posture and alignment
• Building confidence before returning to group classes
• Deepening your understanding of Pilates technique

Hot Mat Pilates is a low-impact strength and mobility workout performed in a gently heated room using infrared technology.

At Pilates Locale, our Hot Mat classes combine traditional Pilates principles with dynamic movement to help improve strength, posture, flexibility and circulation while creating a calming, energising studio experience.

Traditional matwork is the foundation of the Pilates method. Expect:
• Improved core strength
• Better posture and spinal mobility
• Enhanced coordination and control
• Increased flexibility
• A strong, balanced body using minimal equipment

Hot Mat Pilates is our signature class style performed in a gently heated room using infrared technology to warm the space; typically heated to 35°C for HOT classes and 25°C degrees for WARM classes. You’re welcome to take breaks at anytime

The warmth supports deeper mobility, enhances circulation and leaves you feeling lengthened, energised and restored.

Clinical Pilates is a more personalised and rehabilitation-focused style of Pilates, while Reformer Pilates is typically performed in a larger group fitness environment.

At Pilates Locale, Clinical Apparatus sessions use specialised Pilates equipment including the Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair and Barrels to support tailored movement programming and closer instructor guidance.

Infrared heating in Pilates classes offers several benefits that enhance both physical and mental well-being and is loved for its ability to:
• Improve mobility and flexibility
• Support circulation and recovery
• Reduce muscle stiffness
• Create a calming, serotonin‑boosting environment
• Enhance overall class experience

Yes — Hot Mat Pilates is generally safe for most people when practised mindfully and at an appropriate intensity.

At Pilates Locale, we encourage clients to move at their own pace, take breaks when needed and stay hydrated throughout class. If you are pregnant, recovering from injury or have a medical condition, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider before attending.

Our HOT classes are typically heated to around 35°C, while WARM classes are heated to approximately 25°C using infrared heating technology.

The warmth is designed to support mobility, circulation and muscle recovery while creating a deeply grounding movement experience.

Clinical Pilates may help improve strength, posture, mobility and movement control for people experiencing back pain.

Our Clinical Apparatus sessions are designed to support safe, controlled movement and can be tailored to your individual needs and movement history.

Yes — many beginners start with Hot Mat Pilates.

Our instructors provide layered options throughout class so you can work at an intensity that feels right for your body and experience level.

Most people benefit from Pilates 2–4 times per week depending on their goals, schedule and recovery needs.

Consistency is more important than intensity, and even one regular session each week can help improve strength, mobility and overall wellbeing.

Yes, with clearance from your healthcare provider. Please let your instructor know so they can support you with safe options.

Pilates may be a safe and supportive form of exercise during pregnancy when guided appropriately and approved by your healthcare provider.

Please let your instructor know before class so we can support you with suitable movement options and modifications.

Pilates can be an excellent way to rebuild strength, reconnect with your body and support recovery postpartum.

At Pilates Locale, we encourage clients to move gradually and seek medical clearance before returning to exercise after birth.

If you’re recovering from an injury, you’re still welcome in the Mat Room — but it’s important to know that Mat classes are general‑programmed and not individually tailored. Our instructors offer layered options and supportive cues, but they cannot provide clinical guidance or modify the entire class around your injury.

If you choose to attend Mat while recovering, we recommend:
• Moving gently and listening to your body
• Taking breaks whenever you need
• Skipping movements that don’t feel right
• Letting your instructor know before class so they can offer general alternatives

For more complex injuries, acute pain, or if you’re unsure what’s safe, we strongly encourage starting in the Clinical Apparatus Room, where your program can be personalised to your recovery needs.

The Clinical Apparatus Room is specifically designed for clients recovering from injury, rebuilding strength post‑physio, or needing more personalised support.

Here, your instructor will:
• Tailor your program to your injury, goals and current capacity
• Work at your pace with close supervision
• Use the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair and other apparatus to support safe, controlled movement
• Progress you gradually as your body strengthens
• Communicate with your physio or healthcare provider if needed

This room is the safest and most effective place to rebuild confidence, restore mobility and return to full movement — whether your injury is new, ongoing or long‑term.
